Many students when communuicating through either writing or speaking, tend to do a literal or direct translation from Mandarin to English.
It may not be easy to understand what is being written or what the writer intends to communicate if the sentence structure is wrong.
Here is an example of a direct translation from Mandarin to English by one of our students :
Example : I have invited him before two weeks ago. He said if no work must finish, he will come.
Here is the correct way to write : I had invited him two weeks ago. He said he would come if he could finish his work.
Students must remember that the correct usage of English grammar is very important. They have to learn and understand how to use the Parts of Speech in order to write a sentence correctly.
When learning English, we use the Parts of Speech to construct a sentence.
Parts of Speech are : Noun (名词), Pronoun (代词), Verb (动词), Adverb (副词), Adjective (形容词), Preposition (介词) , Conjunction (连词) and Exclamation (感叹词).
In my next issue, I will teach two Parts of Speech : Noun and Verb. Students will learn to expand on these two, to include other Parts of Speech. . This will help them construct simple and proper sentences easily.
